XRF anti-glare film

It is vailable in various cuts and can be easily applied to existing PV modules by its adhesive layer. This film can be easily laminated onto the glass surface of the solar module and provides immediate protection.

A particular advantage of the XRF anti-glare film is its flexibility. Even PV modules that are already installed and in operation can be subsequently coated with this film. This makes it ideal for retrofitting and ensures that existing systems can be made glare-free without time-consuming dismantling.

The anti-glare film is made from an extremely UV and weather-resistant adhesive film with a special scratch-resistant, surface-structured coating. Due to the optimised, bionic surface structure, flat incident light in particular is coupled in much better, so that the film has hardly any influence on the yield - in the best case, the electricity yield even increases. This robust construction guarantees long-term durability and optimum performance, even under the toughest conditions.

Installation

To achieve the best results with the XRF anti-glare film, we recommend dismantling and thoroughly cleaning the PV modules before installation. A clean surface is crucial for optimum adhesion of the film.

After cleaning, the film can be easily applied to the modules using the enclosed instructions. In the event that something goes wrong during installation, we recommend purchasing an additional film to be on the safe side.

Useful tools such as a squeegee, a remover and detailed instructions are included with every minimum order. These ensure that installation runs smoothly and effectively. This way you can ensure that your solar modules are quickly and permanently glare-free.
The glare problem

Our solution for you

The sun shines with an impressive 1.6 billion candelas per square metre (Cd/m²). For comparison: the human eye is already dazzled from a brightness of 100,000 Cd/m². However, modern anti-reflective coatings still reflect at least 1% of the incident light and glare is inevitable. And the flatter the incidence of light, the more light is reflected.
Technically, the glare potential of a solar module is determined by bidirectional reflectance distribution functions (BRDF). The module is illuminated at different angles of light incidence and the reflected luminance is recorded for each spatial direction. The diagram shows the brightness around the specular point, the case for which the angle of incidence and angle of reflection of the light are the same. This is where the highest values are usually measured. The comparison shows that previous modules advertised as glare-free reflect so strongly at flat incidence of light that the human eye is dazzled.
Our XRF coating, on the other hand, reliably reduces the glare of the solar module across all angles of light incidence and in all cases remains below the critical 100,000 Cd/m².

Performance

Top performance at any time of day

The nominal output of solar modules is measured under standardised conditions and is specified on data sheets and the type plate. However, this value is determined under vertical incidence of light, which usually only rarely occurs in real operation. The output of the solar module changes depending on the orientation of the roof and its inclination, the time of year and the time of day. Reflection increases and therefore the output of the solar module decreases, particularly in the case of flat incidence of light, situations that are particularly common in the morning and evening hours of the day. The reason: modern anti-reflective coatings lose a large part of their functionality here. This loss can be measured and visualised using the "Incident Angle Modifier" (IAM for short). In the best case, this value is always close to 100%, regardless of the angle of incidence of light. From around 50°, modern anti-reflective coatings lose their function - in contrast, the XRF coating from Phytonics retains its function. This is due to a unique microstructure that ensures that the light is always guided efficiently into the solar module - as confirmed by the renowned IMEC research centre in Belgium with its measurements.
